Owner and Puppy Training for a Happily Ever After

So you’ve got a new puppy! Congratulations on extending your family and acquiring a new best friend.

Similar to having a small child for the first time, it’s important to know the do’s and dont’s of training a puppy. How do you train them? What do they eat?

Our in-house instructor Fiona Irwin has the answers.

A puppy’s socialising period is from 6 to 16 weeks of age, which presents the ideal window to give your puppy the very best start in life and the opportunity to blossom into a dog you’ll be proud to call yours.

Fiona offers one-on-one behavioural training as well as classes at our Puppy Pre-School. Group training sessions are held one night a week over a four-week period, with classes running for about an hour each. Our curriculum includes:

Temperament – Study background information about dogs’ natural behaviour and how this can help you to understand your new puppy.

Socialisation – Learn why socialisation is important and how to socialise your puppy.

Toilet training – Learn effective techniques for training your puppy at home.

Managing problem behaviours – Minimise problem behaviours such as chewing, digging, jumping, etc.

Preventative medicine – Learn about the preventative medicines currently available and which ones are important for your puppy.

Fleas – Get the facts on what’s effective, what’s not and how to avoid a flea explosion in your house.

Diet and feeding – Get information about when, where, what and how often to feed your puppy.

Grooming – Learn proper techniques for brushing, bathing, nail clipping and other grooming essentials.

Our Puppy Pre-school instructor Fiona Irwin has more than 15 years’ experience. She’s an ardent dog lover and takes personal interest in each four-legged student.

She’ll ensure you and your new puppy learn all you need to know to live happily ever after.
